Barack Obama Enjoys Retirement By Kitesurfing With Richard Branson

The What House?

The What House?

It certainly doesn't look like former United States President (feels weird writing the "former" bit) Barack Obama is missing the White House too much. He's been spotted vacationing in the British Virgin Islands with billionaire Virgin founder Richard Branson.

After his final term came to an end in Washington DC, lots of people have been wondering if Barack and Michelle would stick around and be involved in things, especially given there's a figure like Donald Trump in the top spot.

But for the time being at least, it looks like the Obamas are going to kick back and enjoy themselves. And let's be honest, they've earned it, right?

Yeah, we did say "kicking back" which might give the impression that the former Pres fell asleep on a reclining chair with a beer in his hand.... Not quite!

As Branson's blog posts show, the two had a bit of a waterports competition. The Virgin founder revealed that Obama told him he was not allowed to surf during his time in office, under the instruction of his security staff.

“Just before he became president, he had been surfing on a dangerous break in Hawaii,” Branson wrote in a blog post.

“When he came in from an exhilarating session, the new head of his security team turned to him and said, ‘This will be the last time you surf for eight years.’ For the next eight years he didn’t have the chance to surf, enjoy watersports or do many of the things he loved.”

Although Obama has assured the American public, and the world, he will be vocal in retirement, his most recent challenge was set by Branson, as described in the blog post. The challenge was to see if Obama could learn to kite surf before Branson could learn the foil board.
