The Sound of Silence

The Sound of Silence

Yes, the title is something of an oxymoron and it might take a bit to get to the bottom of what the actual words are about. There’s poetry in there somewhere, but what is immediately obvious is the power with which Disturbed delivered the song on Conan.

I think you’ll agree upon watching the video of the performance, this was no ordinary appearance and that the song certainly suits the band, particularly the vocal abilities of singer, David Draiman.

Nailed It!

Nailed It!

The band went about the task with power, passion, and perfect execution, doing what is not always as easy as it sound; delivering a live performance of a song that does both the recorded version justice, whilst also living up to the original.

The song appears alongside other, slightly heavier and more aggressive, songs on the band’s latest album, ‘Immortalized’. And it appears that Paul Simon, who penned the original tune, is a fan of Disturbed’s effort…

“It’s not every day that one of the most prolific songwriters of all time sends you an email message. Allow me to share with you the brief exchange I had with Mr. Paul Simon himself!!!! Somebody pinch me … P.S., and no, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke,” he wrote.

The posting Simon’s initial message; “Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks”.

The whole thing makes us warm in the tummy, doesn’t it. If you haven’t seen it already, check out the video of the performance on Conan.
