Couple Meets Black Metal Band While Taking Romantic Engagement Photos In The Woods

Everything In Its Right Place

Everything In Its Right Place

Just recently, this young couple,John Awesome and Nydia Hernandez, had photographer Janet Wheeland, out in Holy Jim Canyon in California, snapping away as part of a lovely little engagement photo shoot.

As you can see, it appeared to be a bright, sunny day, with everything in its right place. That is, until there appeared something seemingly well out of place!

These Guys!

All of a sudden, they spotted these guys - the boys from the black metal band, Coldvoid.

While it may seem a bit weird for a bunch of metal dudes to be wandering around in the forest, all dressed in black and sporting the "corpse paint" often associated with the genre, anybody who knows a bit about black metal will be familiar with the forest relationship. Ever since the second wave of black metal became popular in northern Europe in the early 90s, themes and lyrics concerning the cold north and the dark woods have permeated the songs.

It's just that, well, these guys are in California.

“During the last part of the session, we noticed a few guys with some corpse paint makeup on sitting at a nearby bench blaring out some black metal music,” Mr Awesome told ABC News (yes, his name really is Awesome).

“We just randomly thought it would be a funny idea if we could get them to be a part of our engagement shoot. So we approached them and asked and they more than happy to accept! Super nice people. I seriously can't make this stuff up.”

The photographer is said to have struck up a conversation with the guys from Coldvoid and asked them to join in on the photos. Dressed in their spikes, black leathers, and corpse paint, the boys were happy to oblige.

Strangely enough, the couple said that these in addition to other props such as candelabras, swords, etc, really made for some interesting engagement photos to go with the more traditional images such as this.

“They gave us a copy of their new demo and it was the perfect eerie soundtrack for the drive out of the woods,” said Wheeland. “It was a perfect, spontaneous finale to our photo shoot. We couldn't have planned it better.”

It seems like everybody was happy with the outcome. Although black metal is not really the most commercial of music genres, the boys from Coldvoid are reported to have been enjoying a little bit more attention of late, thanks to the chance meeting.
