5 Foods To Avoid When You're Sick

Soda

Soda

I always thought that soda was a good thing to have when you feel sick. At least a Sprite. My mom even suggested it when I was little and she knows everything, right?

Wrong. As it turns out, all the sugar actually messes with your immune system and dehydrates you at the same time. It's best to avoid soda all together while you're sick.

Foods High In Sugar

The same goes for other foods that are high in sugar as what we talked about with soda. The sugar messes with your white blood cells' ability to fight the bacterial infection. It's quite literally stopping you from getting better  more quickly.

Deep Fried Foods

Deep Fried Foods

Let's be honest, foods that are high in sugar or deep fried aren't very good foods for us to have at the best of times, but even more so when we're battling an illness.

Deep fried foods are harder for your digestive system to process, and since it's probably already up against it because your body (and gut) is weaker, these types of foods will simply leave you feeling nauseous and give you diarrhea and/or reflux.

Dairy

Dairy products, including milk, yogurt, cheese, etc, (you know what is dairy and what isn't) should be avoided when you're sick, particularly if you have issues with congestion like a cold. This is the case simply because dairy products cause the body to produce more mucus than normal, and you definitely don't need that at a time like this.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Many of us probably know this one already, simply because we're aware that alcohol will dehydrate us and we already have this problem when we're sick. However, it's amazing how many people also think that a shot or two can help you get over a sickness.

It can't and it won't.
