5 Ways To Make Sure You Stick To Those New Years Resolutions You Made

Refine Your Goals

Refine Your Goals

You've made a New Years resolution or two - we all have. But it's very hard to maintain them and not fall on the new year scrap heap of people who fail, even before February has even hinted at showing on the calendar.

The first step to making sure you keep yours is to refine your goals. Make sure that the objective is both clear and achievable. Once you know exactly where you're heading, you can look at the map to get there.

The new year has only just greeted us, so it's certainly not too late to refine your goals to make this happen for real!

Write It Down

Write It Down

When you know what it is your want from your New Years resolution, it's time to make it happen. The best way to begin with that is to write it down. It reaffirms it in your subconscious and you know you're serious.

Then, put it in a place where you can see it every day. When you're reading it each and every day, you won't forget your goal and you'll be more likely to get there.

Make Yourself Accountable

Make Yourself Accountable

This step is simply just ensuring you are held accountable by telling people about it. You don't have to tell every person who comes in to your life, of course, but telling your close friends and family will ensure that not only do you not want to let yourself down, but you also don't want to let down the people you've told.

Better yet, find someone with the same goal and motivate each other.

Identify Coping Strategies

Identify Coping Strategies

What this means is that you have a plan in place when temptation is particularly tempting. Say your resolution is to eat better. Well, when you have a real craving for a snack, have something like almonds or edamame on hand, rather than something that mostly concerns itself with sugar or fat.

Of course, this is merely an example, but whatever your resolution, if it involves dealing with temptation, you're going to want to identify them and form coping strategies.

Everybody Makes Mistakes

Everybody Makes Mistakes

This is perhaps the most important of all of these five points; just because you give in to temptation once and have a slip-up, doesn't mean you've failed and that it's time to give up. If anything, this is the time to redouble your efforts and keep trying.

Everybody makes mistakes. That's no reason to give up. Don't give up. At all. Ever.
