Aussie Surfer Surfs Under Northern Lights

Under The Lights In Norway

Under The Lights In Norway

This amazing photograph taken by Norwegian photographers Mats Grimsæth and Emil Kjos Sollie is about to go viral and if you need an explanation as to why, might I suggest you have another glance.

The two Norwegians traveled north to Lofoten, Norway, with Aussie three-time world champ surfer, Mick Fanning, to get the shot of a lifetime.

Even if you aren't in to surfing, I'm sure you can appreciate just how thrilled each of the three people involved must have been.

Action Shots Aplenty

On Instagram you can find a whole host of great sporting shots, from the water to the snow, that the two photographers have taken previously, but this must be their crowning glory.

They all got there early and took a bunch of shots and footage that would have been epic enough without night fall. (Note: the sun does not rise in the area from around 4 December to 7 January).

Exhilarating Stuff

Fanning told The Daily Telegraph that he was "Half asleep, jumping in a wet suit, and then just being wowed by all this stuff" but later said that he was screaming with excitement when the moment came.

It's been a big year-and-a-bit for Fanning, of course. Many will remember this close brush with death at the sharp teeth of a great white shark mid-last year.

Now this experience appears to have got his blood pumping again, albeit in a far different way!

The Shot Of A Lifetime

The Shot Of A Lifetime

This shot should not be underestimated, while Fanning's peers were tackling waves on Hawaii's North Shore, he was out in the freezing night air where the last thing most of us would decide to do is get in the water.

But more so than that, according to Red Bull, this is an image Mats Grimsæth and Emil Kjos Sollie have been discussing for about two years - trying to figure out how to make it work.

Now that they have, all we can say is "amazing"!
