It's not everyday that you include a tough rugby player in a story about quiz show dominance, but it just might be that Irish hard man, Paul O'Connell (pictured) has come up with the best game show answer of all time.

A Question Of Sport

A Question Of Sport

Granted, the question was along the sporting lines, however, that shouldn't detract from just how impressive it was.

O'Connell appeared on the British game show, A Question Of Sport, alongside jockey, AP McCoy and former cricketer Phi Tufnell.

The team was presented with a tough, 23-letter answer in the hangman-style game, having just correctly answered a different question, rightly suggested that tennis star Goran Ivanisevic's nationality is Croatian.

“Anything to do with sport,” host Sue Barker said, giving little away. I mean, given the name of the show, we knew that bit already, right?

“It could be a venue, a person, a team, a sporting term. Good luck — or do you want to move on.”

Borussia what?!

Borussia what?!

Nobody seemed very sure. Well, nobody other than the rugby legend, that is.

“Borussia Monchengladbach?” said O’Connell, giving the answer as being the name of a German soccer club.

He was right! But he was a little bit disappointed that it was only worth the regular two points!

“That’s world class,” said a member of the other team, former English rugby star, Matt Dawson.

“Now you know what I was up against when I used to play against Paul O’Connell. Not only has he got one of the greatest answers of all time on A Question of Sport, he complained about how many points it was worth.”
