Is This The Most Expensive Bunch Of Grapes Ever?

Grapes are Good...

Grapes are Good...

If you get a good bunch of grapes (not a euphemism) they can be quite tasty, can't they?

But at the end of the day, they are just grapes. We don't want to break the bank or anything....we'll just get an apple if we have to!

...But Not That Good!

...But Not That Good!

So it is with amazement that we gaze upon this lovely bunch. Sure, they look succulent and whatever adjectives you want to throw in there if you were trying to sell grapes....but for the price tag, I'm getting the apple!

This bunch of grapes just sold for ¥1.1 million. Yeah, more than a million Japanese yen!

In Dollars? $$$$$

In Dollars? $$$$$

All you really need do to convert yen to US dollars is shave two zeros off. So it's about $1,100 dollars...or a tiny bit less to be more accurate.

Wait, what?! More than a grand for a bunch of grapes?!!

Occasionally, fruit can fetch ridonkulous prices in Japan. Dole bananas have been known to go for around six bucks a pop....but nothing in comparison to the grapes, which work out to be about $350 each!

While we're on the subject of Japan, fruit, and all things crazy, check out the square siuka - or watermelon as we know them!

In Japan, sometimes you have to conserve space, and this is one of the best ways we've ever seen to do that. They grow them inside cube-shaped containers for easier stacking and storage.

The crazy expensive grapes are known as Ruby Roman grapes, and were grown in the Ishikawa prefecture. According to The Guardian, "to qualify for the Ruby Roman designation, each grape must weigh at least 20g and have a sugar content of at least 18%".

The store owner who bought them reckons they'll give them out to random shoppers for a bit of a treat!
