Monkey Tries It On With A Deer While Scientists Watch

Double Standards?

Double Standards?

If a man gets caught having sex with an animal, everyone is instantly outraged and calls an animal protection organization and/or the police. But if a monkey sexes a deer, people just stand around and watch (hopefully not as creepy as it sounds). Confused? We'll get to that soon...

This is a Japanese macaque, curiously, found in Japan...

The Sika Deer

The Sika Deer

This is a Japanese (or sika) deer. You can study its behavior and taxonomy and, while I'm sure you will learn some fascinating stuff, at no point will you read anything about how it likes to be penetrated by a monkey penis.

Until now...

Why Did The Deer Cross The Road? To Get The Monkey Off It's Back.

When you look at this particular image, your mind will instantly jump to sick, twisted conclusions of interspecies love. But then you'll soon come to your senses and just figure the monkey is hitching a ride across the road because, I dunno, it's leg hurts....?

Don't Fight The Feeling

This behavior was observed at Yakushima Island, south of Japan, in November 2015, and has since become the subject of a study by researchers from the University of Strasbourg. They say that this example of interspecies sexual behavior is the first ever seen between these two species.

Copulation. Copulation. Copulation.

Copulation. Copulation. Copulation.

"The male mounted the deer and displayed some copulation behaviors, which included about 15 sexual movements over a period of 10 seconds, before dismounting," said study co-author Alexandre Bonnefoy, in a statement.

"Ejaculation seemed to have occurred as the deer licked the seminal liquid after the mount. This might indicate that the sperm could be a good source of protein to the deer."

To be fair, it is a very interesting find and I recommend reading the study. Having said that, I giggled a little bit when I read the word "copulation" and threw up in my mouth when the co-author got to the bit about the licking and the protein.
