This is GiGi.

She's a great horned owl that arrived at the Wild at Heart rescue facility in Mississippi in a pretty bad way.

The animal rescue center took GiGi in an brought her back to health and helped her heal her injuries.

They still aren't sure what caused her injuries but it is believed she had possibly been hit by a car.

Beyond Comprehension

Beyond Comprehension

GiGi had all sorts of problems, from head trauma, a condition known as aspergillosis - a respiratory illness - through to parasites through her body.

"This bird was one of the most critical we have ever taken care of. The fact that this bird has lived is beyond comprehension," said founder, Missy Dubuisson, according to Earthables.

Don't Let Go!

As it turns out, the organization's president, Douglas Pojeky, had made quite the impression on the bird he helped save.

He left for a little while to visit his family interstate and, when he returned, he was greeted by warm embrace from GiGi, who appeared to instantly recognize her savior upon his return.

She hopped on to his chest, wrapped her wings around him and didn't let go!

Birds of Prey

As you can see, the shelter looks after many different types of animals, but it is the birds of prey with whom Douglas is said to have a special relationship. They call him the "birds of prey whisperer".

"They absolutely know him and trust him," said the founder. "It's the trust that you see in her face.

"In all my years of working with birds of prey, I have never seen someone with such a bond with these magnificent birds," she said.
