Ferrari’s first plug-in hybrid supercar is also its most powerful


A new report has stated that the most powerful Ferrari production car ever made is the first plug-in hybrid sports car Ferrari has recently developed.

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale has a 3.9-liter V8 engine and three electric motors that can produce up to 986 horsepower. Two of the motors drive the SF90’s front wheels while the third is connected to the gas engine located behind the seats. Also present in the car is an eight-speed transmission not unlike the transmission in a formula one racing car.

The vehicle can go from zero to sixty in a little above two seconds and reach a maximum speed of 211 miles per hour. The SF90 can be driven in full electric mode for up to fifteen miles and reach a maximum speed of eighty-four miles an hour using only the electric motors. Typically, the SF90 will need to operate as a hybrid, using both gas and electric motors.


The car will debut for consumers at the start of next year.

Ferrari has made hybrid cars in the past. The SF90 is the first plug-in hybrid however. The difference is that a plug-in can be charged through an electric cable, while hybrid cars are charged using energy from the gasoline engine and from braking.

The very first Ferrari hybrid was the LaFerrari in 2013, while the second was the LaFerrari Aperta convertible in 2016. Those cars cost $1.4 million for the former and $2.2 million for the latter. The price of the SF90 is not yet been established. What is known is that it will be less expensive than the LaFerrari and the LaFerrari Aperta convertible.

Unlike most vehicles, the SF90 will not contain a large computer screen on the center of the dashboard. All the digital displays will be in front of the drive. The digital displays, gauges, and other information will all be shown together in front for the driver to see.

The design of the SF90 favors the driver having to move their hands as little as possible from the steering wheel. On the steering wheel are touch sensitive surfaces instead of buttons for various controls. There are also surfaces sensitive to the touch on the dashboard within easy reach of the steering wheel for things such as climate control and mirror adjustments. As usual for Ferrari, there are no separate stalks for the windshield wipers or headlight controls, which are instead built into the steering wheel.

The vehicle also contains a head-up display that reveals information onto the windshield in front of the driver.

The SF90 will be Ferrari’s new top-of-the-line production car. According to Ferrari, a production car is not a car considered a unique one-off car that costs millions of dollars for typically specialized clients. It is also not like the LaFerrari models in that it is not a limited-edition car of which only a few hundred will be put into the market. The SF90, according to Ferrari, will be part of the company’s regular lineup of vehicles.
